Quirk #34554: Sys Tray vanishes when Explorer crashes...
On win98 startup I get an error that Explorer has crashed. When I click on details, it says Kernel32.dll 0177:bff79379. I looked for this number in google, www and groups, but no luck. I'd like to try running explorer again, to see if it will crash again. And maybe to get better info about the crash by starting

Since installing Windows xp, (upgrade), Windows Explorer crashes each time I try to delete short cuts from the desk top, and some types of files. Also crashes if I right click on a file or short cut. Windows xp does not crash, only Windows explorer - all other programs are working correctly with no problems. .

Actual crashes (not blue screens) would be absolutely the most interesting here - do you have data on those? The Explorer crashes sound very interesting. By in-box are you referring to things like Explorer and WMP? Explorer crashes at least once or twice a day from simple tasks like moving/renaming files.

IE5 fixed explorer crashes??
For some reason my explorer crashes frequently, usually when i go to access a web site, no particular pattern to it, I've tried several sites, sometimes it happens, sometimes not. Anyway, I've ran scandisk, and downloaded the latest Mcaffee virus scan, with no results. The message that appears is something like

When I kill the task imgicon, I can insert and remove autoplay CDs without Explorer crashing. I now use an older version of imgicon, the one from IomegaWare 2.2.1a,together with the rest of IomegaWare 3.0.6, and it works perfectly. I just wonder if I am the only one with the Explorer crashes.

can be simulated by going into Task Manager and ending Explorer. Only slightly annoying, but would be nice to figure out why... Mhasse has a good explanation of what explorer does. If explorer crashes on me I always reboot anyway. When it does crash you are usually having some resource problems anyway.

For the last few months, Windows Explorer on my Win98 SE system crashes at random or is REALLY slow to open folders, especially My Documents and its subfolders. When it crashes, it often crashes the whole system as well. Occasionally using Close Program works, but often I can't even get that to come up.
